Annetta Harvie – OXFORD ON FOOT

Walking Tours of Oxford

As a Blue Badge registered tourist guide for Oxford I am qualified to guide in the City and surrounding area. I am Danish with family links to the City and the University going back 50 years and more.

As a Blue Badge guide for London I am also able to cover major tourist towns in the Midlands and in the South of England, such as Stratford upon Avon, Warwick, Bath and Windsor.

Walking Tours

The standard walking tour, up to 2 hours, will give you the overall picture of the University. But it is the people, who give the University its character. Tours can have a personal theme such as;

Languages

oxford-on-foot-flags-english
oxford-on-foot-flags-danish
oxford-on-foot-flags-german
oxford-on-foot-flags-french

Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis; now also the prequel to the series ‘Endeavour’.

Follow the footsteps of the great detective Inspector Morse. Drink in the pubs where he found his inspiration (do not expect Lewis to pay). Feel the breath of Chief Superintendent Strange down the neck and never far behind. And much more.

Religion

The older Colleges were all religious foundations, and religion has always been part of the fabric of the City and the University. Cardinal Newman did his first important work here and was part of the Oxford Movement.

Scientists

Penicillin was discovered in London in 1929 by Alexander Fleming. But it was a group of Oxford scientists, who made it work some ten years later.

Women at Oxford

Colleges for women were first established in 1879. It took nearly 50 years for women to be allowed to take their degrees, and 100 years to get a foot in the door of the men’s Colleges. All is now equal.

Family tour: Harry Potter, CS Lewis, J R Tolkien.

Join Harry Potter and other first year students on arrival at Hogwarts as they walk up the stairs leading to the dining hall.

After the tour I hope I will have inspired you enough to stay on in Oxford to explore on your own its museums, book shops and tea rooms.
